A magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit Bogo City, Cebu on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In its Earthquake Information No. 1, Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 12:59 p.m., with a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to the agency, the quake was identified as an aftershock of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck offshore Northern Cebu on Sept. 30.
“This is an aftershock of the 2025 September 30 Mw6.9 Offshore Northern Cebu earthquake,” Phivolcs noted.
Phivolcs said the tremor was tectonic in origin, meaning it was caused by the movement of rock layers beneath the earth’s crust.
No damage or aftershocks are expected following the tremor, it added.
