Interview: K-pop boy band ALL(H)OURS on latest album 'VCF,' Dream Concert, fans
K-pop boy band ALL(H)OURS under Eden Entertainment made their comeback in September with their new album “VCF.”
“VCF” is their fourth mini-album and the title is an abbreviation for “Vibe Check Failed” and is derived from the popular social media meme and slang “vibe check.”
ALL(H)OURS, a play on the phrases “all ours” and “all hours,” debuted in January last year with members Kunho, Youmin, Xayden, Minje, Masami, Hyunbin, and On:N.
In an interview with Manila Bulletin,ALL(H)OURS ( 올아워즈) members talked about the new album, their upcoming performance, fans and plans for the rest of the year.
“VCF” was released seven months after ALL(H)OURS dropped their third mini-album “Smoke Point” in February.
Compared to “Smoke Point,” ALL(H)OURS said they tried new things to show in “VCF.”
Xayden said, “As ‘VCF’ was released after our first fancon and our first European tour, I think we were able to show our upgraded stage manners and performances. When preparing for this album, we didn’t hesitate to try new things and explore what we could show new concepts to the audience, and therefore, you will be able to clearly see what has been upgraded since the last album.”
“In this last album, ‘Smoke Point,’ we demonstrated powerful and explosive concepts and performances; however, in ‘VCF,’ as all members have become adults, I think we tried to include sexier moves in our choreographies,” said Hyunbin.
Favorite song in ‘VCF’
The members chose their favorite song in “VCF,” which contains five tracks.
Kunho picked “La Vida Loca,” saying, “It’s one of the songs that you could really hear our vocal line’s harmony and timbres, and that is why I chose it. Personally, I was able to show my rap skills in ‘La Vida Loca,’ unlike the other songs where I sing on the vocal line. It was a great opportunity to show a different charm from before, and that is why it has become my favorite song in ‘VCF.’”
Youmin and Minje chose “Do It.”
“I think it’s the highest quality and has the highest finishes on the rhythm and melody out of all ALL(H)OURS’ songs,” said Youmin.
Minje said, “Because it definitely shows our explosive energy.”
“Good Job” was picked by Xayden and Masami.
Xayden said, “I feel attached to this song because I wrote it, but also because I feel like it’s the first hip-hop song that really fits into our concept.”
Masami said, :”Just like Xayden, I feel attached to it because one, I participated in writing the lyrics, and two, because I really enjoy listening to the addictive chorus part of the song.”
Hyunbin said his “personal favorite is ‘La Vida Loca’ because I enjoy listening to ALL(H)OURS’ finest vocals.”
For On:N, it’s “Ready 2 Rumble,” saying, “I love all songs in ‘VCF,’ but as ‘Ready 2 Rumble’ is the title track of the album, I really love ‘Ready 2 Rumble.’ Also, because of its strong beats and explosive performance, it brings joy to the audience!”
Memorable moments
As part of their promotions for “VCF,’ ALL(H)OURS performed on Korean TV music shows for weeks.
Masami said his memorable moment during the promotion “was when we had our mini fan meeting. We were able to do a cover dance and do a quiz game with Min(ut)es! It was really cute, and we had so much fun for sure.”
Xayden said, “I also thought of when we had our mini fan meeting. I remember we really looked forward to our mini fan meeting because it’s been so long since we really communicated with our fans in person. It was a fun time, and we can’t wait to make more memories with our Min(ut)es!”
During their promotions, ALL(H)OURS won the ENA Rising Star Award on the music TV show “K-Pop Up Chart Show.”
“We give all huge thanks to our fans, Min(ut)es. We will try our best to become artists that can make Min(ut)es proud, so please continue to send love and support to ALL(H)OURS,” said Kunho.
He added, “As this is our first award after our debut, we will treasure this award and use the thankful and overwhelming emotions we felt when we received it as our motivation. Moving forward as a group, we will continue to show music and performance that embodies powerful colors of ALL(H)OURS. Thank you.”
