'Ganyan dapat!': Insurance payment for two riders released 2 days after fatal motorcycle crash

If they were to believe the claims of riders who figured in road crashes, the relatives of the two security guards who died in Pasig City would have lost their hope of getting insurance payment.
But the opposite happened as the insurance payment was released two days after the fatal motorcycle crash happened.
And for newly-installed Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II, this should be the standard in the release of the insurance payment.
“We immediately assisted the family of the victims and we are thankful that the insurance company was very accommodating by ensuring that the payment would be released in the soonest possible time,” said Mendoza.
Based on the investigation, the two security guards were on their way home from work at around 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 when the motorcycle they were riding in hit a passenger jeepney which was then making a U-turn on the designated slot along Marcos Highway.
The female backrider died on the spot due to serious injuries she suffered while the male rider succumbed to serious injuries in the hospital.
Right after being informed of the incident, Mendoza said he was tasked by Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez to extend all the necessary assistance to the families of the victims.
Mendoza said they immediately coordinated with the insurance company, which in turn, released P100,000 for each of the victims through Passenger Accident Management & Insurance Agency (PAMI) president and chief executive officer Bunny Atayde Operations manager Bong Nocum.
He said the LTFRB also extended P25,000 for each of the two victims, adding that the money was released two days after the road crash happened.
For their part, the teary-eyed siblings of the two victims expressed gratitude to Secretary Lopez and Chairman Mendoza.
“We want to express our gratitude to (DOTr) Secretary Banoy and Chairman Vigor for the assistance to fast-track the processing of the insurance. This money is really a big help for us,” said Rodalyn de Jose, sister of the motorcycle rider.
“On behalf of our family, we extend our gratitude to DOTr Secretary Lopez and LTFRB Chairman Mendoza. We hope that this kind of assistance will be extended to all other ordinary people,” said the brother of the female security guard.
Mendoza has been an advocate of quick and appropriate insurance payment for all the road crash victims, citing his own experience on how hard it is for ordinary people to shell out money for medical and burial expenses.
“Let us put a stop to the old practice wherein the insurance is released at a time when the family was already buried in debt for hospital, and in some cases, the insurance payment is not even paid at all,” said Mendoza.
“We will make sure that all the necessary assistance will be extended in the soonest possible time,” he added.
