PHIVOLCS
Two moderate earthquakes jolted Ilocos Norte on Friday afternoon, Oct. 17, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the first tremor, with a magnitude of 5.2, occurred at 4:15 p.m. and was traced 11 kilometers northwest of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.
Instrumental Intensity III was recorded in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte; Intensity II in Claveria, Cagayan, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, and Sinait, Ilocos Sur; and Intensity I in the City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
Sixteen minutes later, at 4:31 p.m., a second quake with a magnitude of 5.0 struck 13 kilometers northwest of Pagudpud, also at a depth of 10 kilometers.
It registered Instrumental Intensity II in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, and Intensity I in Claveria, Cagayan; San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; and Sinait and the City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
The twin tremors struck the same day a 6.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Surigao del Norte in Mindanao around 7:03 a.m.
