Sawmill owner hurt in shooting

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Gunmen shot and wounded a sawmill owner here on Thursday, Oct. 16.

Police identified the victim as Melvin Bonifacio.

Investigation said two men on a motorcycle appeared when Bonifacio arrived at his sawmill.

The back rider drew a short firearm and shot the victim at close range.

The suspects fled and the victim was taken to a hospital.

Police noted the crime scene had been contaminated by residents who rushed to the area.

Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
