The Philippines is officially nominated in nine categories at the 32nd World Travel Awards (WTA), with final results eagerly awaited, the Department of Tourism (DOT) announced on Friday, Oct. 17.
Building on its success in regional competitions, the country is among the finalists for three world-level, five destination-specific, and one institutional award.
At the world level, the Philippines seeks to retain its distinction as the World’s Leading Dive Destination 2025, reclaim the World’s Leading Beach Destination 2025 title last held in 2022 and 2023, and earn recognition as the World’s Leading Island Destination 2025.
For destination-specific honors, Manila is nominated for World’s Leading City Destination 2025, while the historic Intramuros returns as a contender for World’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2025.
Boracay is vying for World’s Leading Luxury Island Destination 2025, while Cebu competes for World’s Leading Wedding Destination 2025.
Clark Freeport Zone is nominated for World’s Leading Meeting & Conference Destination 2025, recognized for its growing capacity in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.
The DOT is also nominated for World’s Leading Tourist Board 2025, underscoring its global efforts to promote the Philippines as a premier travel destination.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco said the nominations reflect the world’s admiration for the country and the resilience and warmth of its people.
“Tourism continues to bring good news for the Philippines, not only through international recognition, but through the livelihoods and jobs it sustains for millions of Filipinos. These nominations reflect the world’s continued confidence in the Philippines as a destination of beauty and hope,” Frasco said.
She urged Filipinos to support the country’s bid in the final voting round.
“Tourism remains one of the country’s strongest engines of hope, creating opportunities, sustaining jobs, and uplifting communities across our islands. We invite everyone to rally behind our country, vote for the Philippines, and take pride in this good news for our nation,” she added.
Further highlighting the country’s growing global presence, 16 private Philippine tourism establishments are also nominated in various WTA categories.
Voting for the final phase of the WTA is open until Oct. 26 at www.worldtravelawards.com/vote.
