Vice President Sara Duterte admitted going through a “professional crisis” when she was suddenly attacked by the Marcos administration during her time as secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).
The official shared about her struggles inside the official family of President Marcos during the Pandesal Forum in Quezon City on Thursday, Oct. 16.
“Professional crisis, yung naging Vice President ako (when I became Vice President). I was serving in the Cabinet of BBM at nagtataka ako bakit ako inaatake. Wala naman akong ginagawa (sa kanila) (and suddenly I was being attacked. I was not doing anything [to them]),” she pointed out.
Even while she was concurrently the Vice President and DepEd chief, the administration has been rolling out projects and attacking her at the same time.
“Yun ‘yung professional crisis nadaanan ko (That’s the professional crisis that I went through),” Duterte recalled.
“It took me a while to realize my worth and value as a government official na hindi dapat ganito ang ginagawa sa akin. Kasi wala naman akong ginagawang masama sa administrasyon, kay BBM man o kahit kanino man (that they shouldn’t be doing this to me because I was not doing anything to them, to BBM, or to anyone),” she added.
The official shared that it took her a few months before she decided that she won’t allow what they were doing to her and her office without fighting back.
“I will not endure ‘yung ganoon at hindi rin ako hihingi ng some sort of peace na parang huwag niyong gawin sa akin ito. Ang desisyon ko was, aalis ako, ituloy nyo lang kung ano gusto niyong gawin (I will not endure that and I will not ask for some sort of peace so that they won’t do this to me. My decision was I will leave, and you can just continue what you’re doing),” she said.
Duterte left the DepEd in June last year.
Personal crisis
On a lighter note, the official shared that her personal crisis is “aging,” adding that she is being slowed down by her age.
“Kung merong fountain of youth, hinahanap yun ng mga nagkakaedad (If there is a fountain of youth, those who are aging will try to look for it),” the Vice President, who turned 47 in May, said.
