Although Vice President Sara Duterte maintained that she had never handled flood control projects in her position, she claimed that she could be implicated because of her last name.
Speaking to reporters during the Pandesal Forum in Quezon City on Thursday, Oct. 16, the Vice President said she is confident that there will be no evidence linking her to the current corruption scandal.
“Sigurado ako hindi aabot sa akin ang flood control scandal (I am sure that the flood control scandal will not reach me),” she stressed, adding that there were no flood control projects under the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) when she was still its secretary.
Duterte resigned from DepEd last year.
She claimed that even former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary Manuel Bonoan or contractors can testify that she never had any infrastructure project with the public works agency.
“In fact, hindi nga nila masabi ngayon may insertions ang Vice President eh. Kasi wala talaga. Hindi ako sumasali sa ganyan (In fact, they cannot even say now that the vice president has insertions because there’s really nothing. I don’t join those),” she said.
Despite this, however, Duterte believed that the investigation will soon try to link her to the corruption issue through Senator Bong Go since they are political allies.
She explained that her name will expectedly be dragged because of Go and her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.
“Kung aabot ba sa akin? Sa tingin ko aabot siya kasi kaalyado kami (If it will reach me? I think they will try because we are allies),” she said.
“Sa tingin ko ili-link nila, sa tingin ko susubukan nila na paabutin sa akin dahil sa kaalyado ni dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte si Senator Bong Go. Doon siguro nila gagawan ng kwento yun (I think they will try to link, I think they will try to get it to reach because as an ally of former president Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Bong Go. Maybe they’ll make a story out of it),” she added.
On Thursday, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon said that the agency and the Office of the Ombudsman are investigating the CLTG Builders—a company owned by Go’s father, Diciderio Go—and the Discaya couple.
Sarah and Curlee Discaya own St. Gerrard Construction General Contractor and Development Corporation, which reportedly entered into a joint venture with CLTG Builders, and bagged P816 million worth of infrastructure projects in the Davao Region.
Davao is the bailiwick of the Duterte family.
