Over 225,500 Philippine National Police (PNP) officials and personnel will receive a 2023 performance-based bonus (PBB) totaling ₱3.39 billion, as the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved its release.
According to the DBM bonus release, which will come from the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund (MPBF) under the 2025 national budget, aims to strengthen the morale and welfare of government workers, especially those in law enforcement.
“It also underscores the administration’s broader thrust to build a professional, motivated, and well-supported bureaucracy that delivers with integrity and excellence,” it said.
“[Police officers] stand at the frontlines of peace and order every single day. We see their hard work and dedication, so we are making sure they receive what is rightfully due to them,” said Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman in a statement released on Thursday, Oct. 16.
Each eligible PNP officer and employee will get a performance-based bonus equal to 45.5 percent of their basic monthly pay as of Dec. 31, 2023.
Personnel in the first, second, and third levels must have earned at least a “Very Satisfactory” rating under the Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) performance system, or its Career Executive Service Board (CESB) equivalent.
The release of the 2023 PBB comes after the Administrative Order No. 25 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) issued its Final Eligibility Assessment Report last year, confirming that the PNP qualifies for the bonus.
Pangandaman said the bonus is modest compared to the daily risks police personnel face in carrying out their duties.
“This is a small thing compared to the blood and sweat our police pour out every day. In every peso they receive is the government’s recognition of their heroism and faithful service to the country,” Pangandaman said.
Additionally, the incentive is expected to ease the financial burden on police families, helping cover household expenses, school costs, or daily needs.
“Through this release, we not only recognize their service but also reaffirm our commitment to a government that rewards performance and accountability,” Pangandaman concluded.
