DSWD provides P65 million in aid to families affected by Mindanao quakes

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released at least P65 million in humanitarian assistance to families and individuals affected by the doublet earthquake that struck Manay, Davao Oriental on Oct. 10.
DSWD-Disaster Response Management Group Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao on Thursday, Oct. 16 said P63 million has been distributed in Davao Region, while P1.7 million has reached affected communities in Caraga, particularly in Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur.
She said Davao Oriental received the largest share of relief, with P58 million worth of food and non-food items.
Davao de Oro received P3 million, while Davao del Norte got P1.6 million.
The aid package also included 75,286 boxes of family food packs distributed to displaced families in both regions.
Private partners have supported the response by providing potable water to displaced residents.
On Oct. 15, Clean Water International Philippines, a partner of DSWD-Field Office 11, installed a Living Water Treatment System in Barangay Holy Cross, Manay, Davao Oriental.
The Philippine Army also installed a water filtration system in Tarragona, Davao Oriental.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology had recorded 1,475 aftershocks triggered by the magnitudes 7.4 and 6.8 earthquakes in Davao Occidental a week ago.
Of these, 19 were felt by residents, with the highest magnitude at 5.8.
