None of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) undersecretaries is linked to contractors handling flood control projects, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said on Thursday, Oct. 16.
The statement came in response to earlier allegations by Batangas 1st district Rep. Leandro Legarda Leviste that some members of Dizon’s team had ties with contractors.
Dizon assured the public he would personally investigate all reports and take swift action if wrongdoing is confirmed.
“Even though these are still rumors, it is essential to verify specifics. Because of my commitment to Rep. Leandro Leviste and to our fellow citizens, and in line with the President’s directive, I will immediately remove any official involved and press charges,” Dizon said during a press briefing.
He added that none of the undersecretaries have contractors, but he will investigate the report further and requested Leviste to provide specific names and circumstances.
Leviste earlier alleged that some members of Dizon’s team had met with contractors outside the DPWH, raising concerns over potential conflicts of interest.
“Someone just told me before I arrived here that members of the team are actually contractors or had been meeting with contractors outside DPWH,” Leviste said.
He urged Dizon to verify if any appointees had met with contractors and what was discussed.
During the latter part of the press conference, an official contacted Leviste, pledging full cooperation in investigating the claims and emphasizing the department’s zero-tolerance policy for corruption.
The DPWH is currently implementing major flood control projects across Metro Manila and other high-risk areas, including river rehabilitation, drainage improvements, and floodway construction, aimed at reducing urban flooding and strengthening disaster resilience.
Some of these projects have previously faced scrutiny over delays, cost adjustments, and contract irregularities, drawing heightened public and congressional attention.
Dizon’s statement underscores the DPWH’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
All appointees will undergo strict evaluation, and credible reports of misconduct will be thoroughly investigated, reflecting the administration’s anti-corruption drive and the urgent need for efficient, accountable infrastructure delivery.
