Boy, 11, killed in lightning strike

An 11-year-old boy was killed in a lightning strike in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Barangay Captain Armando Vito said lightning struck the bamboo wall of the victim’s home while he was lying in bed and hugging his pregnant mother.
The victim sustained chest injuries, partial burns to his hair, and damaged clothes.
Emergency responders were dispatched but the victim was already unresponsive when they arrived.
He was the eldest of six siblings.
Vito said that this was not the first lightning-related incident in the victim’s family. The boy’s grandfather was also struck but survived.
The barangay pledged support to the victim’s family.
