The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Zambales at 2:09 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16.
Phivolcs said the epicenter was located 10 kilometers northwest of Masinloc, Zambales, at a depth of 30 kilometers.
Its instruments measured the quake at Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Iba, Zambales; Intensity III (weak) in Masinloc and Cabangan, Zambales; Intensity II (slightly felt) in Botolan and San Marcelino, Zambales; and Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Dinalupihan, Orani, and Abucay in Bataan, Guagua in Pampanga, Tarlac City, Bamban, and Santa Ignacia in Tarlac, and Subic, Zambales.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.
It added that no damage or aftershocks are expected.
