President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (Mark Balmores)
President Marcos continues to be unfazed over the decline in public trust for him in September, Malacañang said.
A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released on Wednesday, Oct. 15, showed that Marcos posted a trust rating of 43 percent, down from 48 percent in June.
The survey conducted from Sept. 24 to 30 also showed that 36 percent had little trust in, and 21 percent were undecided.
Despite the fall, the public is aware that the President is doing his job, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said.
"Ang Pangulong Marcos, Jr. ay nakikita natin na tunay na nagtatrabaho at kumakalaban sa korapsyon. Walang humpay para umangat ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino sa gitna ng mga kalamidad na kinakaharap natin (We can see that President Marcos Jr. is truly working hard and fighting against corruption, tirelessly striving to improve the lives of every Filipino amid the calamities the nation is facing)," Castro said on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
"Hindi man niya alintana ang numero sa mga survey, pero ikinalulugod niya na nararamdaman na ng mga kababayan natin na ang Pangulo at ang gobyerno ay nandyan para sa kanila (He may not mind the numbers in surveys, but he is pleased that our fellow citizens can now feel that the President and the government are there for them)," Castro added.
Without naming names, the Palace official stressed that the public knows who is truly working for the people, and those are only thinking of their personal interests.
"Mulat na ang mga mata ng mga mamamayan kung sino ba talaga ang tunay na nagtatrabaho at nagmamalasakit sa kanila at hindi yung pansariling interes lang ang iniisip (The people are now aware of who is genuinely working for and caring about them, and who is only thinking of their own personal interests)," Castro said.
'Only sitting president in history to expose corruption'
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez believes Marcos was the only sitting president to ever expose a massive corruption scandal.
Gomez noted OCTA Research's recent survey indicating that 83 percent of the respondents expressed support for Marcos' actions to expose anomalies in flood control projects.
"We must remember that it was the President himself who blew the whistle on this issue. I believe he is the only sitting President in Philippine history to expose corruption in his own administration,” Gomez said in an interview with The Big Story news program aired over One News PH channel on Tuesday.
"We must remember that was only two months and two weeks ago. And since then, a lot of things have happened. Marami nang nagawa ang executive at ang ating Pangulo (The President and the executive have done a lot),” the PCO chief added.
Gomez cited the Sumbong sa Pangulo website has received more than 20,000 reports from the public on ghost or substandard flood control projects since its creation.
He added that Marcos has also established the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), which has started its investigation into irregularities in flood control projects.
“So many things have happened in just two months and two weeks’ time. But we understand the impatience of the people. Medyo naiinip pa rin sila (They are getting impatient),” Gomez acknowledged.
