The Muntinlupa City government conducted structural safety inspections of school buildings and big structures in Muntinlupa following the series of earthquakes in the country.
Mayor Ruffy Biazon accompanied the Visual Structural Assessment Team from the Muntinlupa Office of the Building Official and City Engineering Department during the inspection.
Among the schools they visited were the Pedro E. Diaz High School, which is located along the West Valley Fault line, Muntinlupa Business High School and Buli Elementary School.
“Sa ngayon, structurally sound at nasa maayos na kalagayan ang mga paaralan. Pero hindi tayo p’wedeng pakampante. Kahit low-intensity earthquakes, kapag napabayaan, p’wedeng lumala ang pinsala. Kaya critical ang regular inspections at tamang maintenance (For now, the schools are structurally sound and in good condition. But we cannot be complacent. Even low-intensity earthquakes, if neglected, can worsen the damage. That is why regular inspections and proper maintenance are critical),” Biazon said.
Biazon reminded students to always remember the most important thing to do when an earthquake strikes: duck, cover, and hold.
“Binibigyang diin natin ngayon ang regular earthquake drills sa lahat ng schools, kasabay ang patuloy na inspections at disinfection (We are now emphasizing regular earthquake drills in all schools, along with continuous inspections and disinfection),’ he said.
In addition, sanitation and disinfection are being done in schools to mitigate the increasing number of influenza-like illness (ILI) cases.
