ILOILO CITY – Ex-officio Iloilo Provincial Board Member JP Peñol has sought Emergency Go Bags for every household in the province.
“When disaster threatens, we must be ready. For survival is the reward of preparation, and preparedness is the promise of life. The emergency bag must serve as more than just an item – it should stand as a covenant of safety and a tangible commitment to make preparedness a reality for every family,” said Peñol, president of the Philippine Councilors League-Iloilo Chapter, in a recent privilege speech titled “Emergency Bag for Every Family: A Matter of Equity and Resilience.”
“As we allocate billions towards physical infrastructure, it is equally imperative that we invest in our human capital – the families that form the very foundation of our society,” added Peñol.
The provincial board, acting on the privilege speech, passed two resolutions asking the national government to initiate the distribution of emergency bags and urging local government units (LGUs) to consider the distribution of emergency bags and provide necessary funds.
Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. said his administration is considering the Go Bag.
