- Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca said that Henry Alcantara—one of the DPWH officials implicated in the flood control mess—was brought to Pasay Medical Center to have his condition checked through an electrocardiogram (ECG) and other medical tests.
The Senate brought former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) first district engineer Henry Alcantara to a hospital in Pasay City last Monday after he complained of a chest discomfort, the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms confirmed on Wednesday, October 15.
Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca said that Alcantara—one of the DPWH officials implicated in the flood control mess—was brought to Pasay Medical Center to have his condition checked through an electrocardiogram (ECG) and other medical tests.
“He complained of chest discomfort. So to check, he was brought to Pasay Medical Center for ECG and other confirmatory tests. But it was ruled only as muscle spasm,” Aplasca said.
“He was brought back to the Senate same day and is very much normal up to today and everyday the senate medical team is conducting regular check up to all our detainees to monitor their status,” he said.
Alcantara was cited by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee for contempt for lying last September 18, when he insisted he had nothing to do with the anomalous flood control projects in Bulacan.
Other dismissed DPWH officials who have also been cited in contempt and are currently detained at the Senate include Alcantara’s fellow former assistant district engineers Brice Hernandez and Jaypee Mendoza.
They earlier asked Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III to allow them to be placed under house arrest.
However, Sotto has yet to act on their petition as he clarified that the blue ribbon committee chairman has not yet decided on the matter.
Before the Senate adjourned for the Undas break last October 10, Sotto announced that Sen. Erwin Tulfo will be the acting chairman of the blue ribbon panel.
