The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has granted P28 million in emergency employment assistance under its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program to support 5,450 residents who were affected by the Oct. 10 earthquakes in the Davao Region.
DOLE-11 said the initiative began Monday to provide temporary income and help rehabilitate communities affected by the tremors.
Of the total beneficiaries, 4,950 are from Davao Oriental, while 500 others are from Davao City, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, and Davao Occidental.
Most of the work will be concentrated in Manay, Davao Oriental—the epicenter and hardest-hit town of the offshore earthquakes that registered magnitudes 7.4 and 6.8.
Under TUPAD, participants will engage in debris clearing, materials recovery, stockpiling, and waste management to accelerate local rehabilitation and restore essential services.
The program also provides micro-insurance coverage for all beneficiaries to ensure their safety while undertaking rehabilitation-related tasks.
“Through TUPAD, we aim to help workers rebuild their lives by providing temporary income and livelihood while contributing to the restoration of their communities,” DOLE said.
The department reaffirmed its commitment to extend immediate assistance to displaced workers and affected families as thousands continue to recover from the twin quakes that struck several parts of the region.
