12,500 Emergency Go Bags distributed in San Juan City — Mayor Francis
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Wednesday, Oct. 15, announced that the city government had already distributed 12,500 Emergency Go Bags to its residents as the city continues to prepare for calamities and disasters, particularly the long-anticipated "The Big One" earthquake.
Zamora said that all public school students in San Juan City had been given their Emergency Go Bags including hard hats since March.
The city government is now making preparations for the purchase of additional Go Bags for its residents.
"Sa aming pagpupulong ay inutos ko na ang paghahanda sa additional procurement ng Emergency Go Bags. Kung dati ay nagprocure tayo ng Emergency Go Bags for our public school students, pinaghahandaan na natin ngayon ang procurement ng Emergency Go Bags para sa ating mga households (In our meeting, I ordered the preparation for the additional procurement of Emergency Go Bags. We had previously procured Emergency Go Bags for our public school students. Now, we are preparing for the procurement of Emergency Go Bags for our households)," the mayor noted.
Each San Juan City Emergency Go Bag contains the following items:
- Hard hat
- Raincoat
- USB rechargeable flashlight
- 5000mAh powerbank
- 12-hour glow stick
- First aid kit with Basic Disaster Preparedness Module, emergency contact card, triangular bandage, elastic bandage, adhesive bandage strips, emergency blanket, alcohol pad, Povidone Iodine, whistle, and a pair of scissors
"Ang Makabagong San Juan ay masigasig na tumutugon sa pangangailangan ng bawat San Juaneño tungo sa isang handa, ligtas, at matatag na komunidad. Mga minamahal kong San Juaneño, maging alerto at maingat sa lahat ng oras. Ang pagiging handa ay susi upang mapanatili ang kaligtasan ng ating pamilya at ng buong komunidad (The Makabagong San Juan is passionately responding to the needs of every San Juaneño toward a prepared, safe, and resilient community. My dear San Juaneños, be alert and vigilant at all times. Being prepared is key to maintaining the safety of our families and the entire community)," Zamora stressed.
Aside from the distribution of Emergency Go Bags, Zamora noted that the city government, particularly its City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), regularly conducts simulations and exercises to guarantee their preparedness.
Barangay seminars and forums are also being held to educate residents on what to do in times of calamities.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining rescue equipment, emergency vehicles, and personnel training for immediate deployment.
