Thunderbelles notch second win; Cool Smashers bounce back

ZUS Coffee flexed its might anew while defending champion Creamline bounced back from a recent defeat after outplaying their respective rivals in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday night, Oct. 14.
The Thunderbelles overpowered the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-22, 25-16, 26-16, for their second win in as many games, while the Cool Smashers recovered from a third-set hiccup and turned back the Petro Gazz Angels, 25-20, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, to even their record to 1-1.
Import Anna DeBeer shone with 18 points highlighted by 15 kills for ZUS Coffee, which only gave up 13 points on errors in their 77-minute duel.
AC Miner also stepped up with her all-around game and finished with 10 points built on seven attacks, two aces and one block.
Jelena Cvijovic tried to steer the Highrisers, but could only manage 11 points -- all from attacks -- as the team absorbed its second loss in as many outings.
In the other pairing, Courtney Schwan pumped in 27 points for Creamline, which rediscovered its old form and erased the bitter memory of a five-set loss to Akari over the weekend to get back on track.
Alyssa Valdez and Tots Carlos chipped in 14 points apiece, overshadowing the efforts of Brooke Van Sickle and Lindsey Vander Weide for Petro Gazz.
Van Sickle erupted for 26 points, while Vander Weide had 17 points for the Angels, all of which went down the drain.
