A few years ago, Patrick Jose was living the classic 9-to-5 lifestyle, like many other professionals seeking career growth.
As a certified public accountant, his typical day at the office mostly revolved around analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and doing tax services. But on busier days, his role becomes more strenuous, often leaving him feeling cornered with little flexibility. “It easily becomes routinary, not in color, just black and white,” Jose recounted.
Jose’s situation in his previous job convinced him it was time to step into a new chapter. So in 2019, he made a decisive move in his career and shifted to a different yet familiar field: financial coaching. From being a part-time insurance agent, Jose now works as a full-time employee at Pru Life UK, serving as one of the top-performing Unit Managers.
“It was a difficult decision to make but I’m glad I made the leap. Even then, I was sure that the benefits will outweigh the risk,” he said.
Turning point
Jose has been an insurance agent since 2019. He initially pursued the role as a side gig, drawn by its flexibility, the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on other people’s lives, and the chance to hone his communication skills.
Though he was only a part-time employee, Jose continued to receive support from Pru Life UK through its training and mentorship programs. This enabled him to acquire a strong skill set that equipped him to build a strong and lasting relationship with both potential and existing customers.
Jose eventually decided to go full-time, realizing the significant personal growth potential and deeply rewarding impact that the role offered.
“My main intention in joining Pru Life UK was to help people in their financial journey while making extra money. It was the company culture and the sense of purpose that I found that made me stay for good,” said Jose.
Inspiring career path
One thing that keeps Jose going is the meaningful nature of his role. Every day, he grows fonder of the work he does, knowing it will be filled with heartfelt and genuine interactions with the people he serves.
One time, he helped a client who suffered a disability secure an additional P2 million in insurance claims, going above and beyond to maximize the benefits for his client.
“Working as an insurance agent also has its own set of challenges. But what sets it apart from my previous role is that, now, I wake up feeling energized and fulfilled. Every day, I am looking forward to the little moments of good vibes with my coworkers and clients,” said Jose.
