After responding to three typhoons and eight earthquakes in recent months, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Tuesday, October 14, said it continues to work tirelessly on the frontlines of disaster relief — this time extending urgent aid to communities struck by the recent “doublet earthquakes” in Davao Oriental.
As part of its ongoing operations, the PRC has mobilized 79 staff and volunteers on the ground and remains in coordination with more than 500 responders across Mindanao.

The organization’s Disaster Management Service has also deployed teams to assess six affected areas in Davao Oriental to ensure that emergency needs are addressed quickly and effectively.
In the aftermath of the quakes, the PRC established 12 first aid stations in Davao Oriental and Surigao del Sur, deployed five ambulances, and treated 283 individuals for various injuries. Seventy units of blood were also delivered to the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital to support local health facilities.

To address immediate medical needs, PRC’s Health Services set up two Emergency Medical Tents at the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center, serving 39 patients. A multipurpose tent was also established at St. Dominic Medical Hospital, along with a health desk in Davao Oriental for walk-in consultations.
Beyond medical response, PRC’s welfare teams have served 3,983 hot meals, deployed two food trucks from Davao del Sur and Davao City, and established five welfare desks across Davao Oriental, Agusan del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.

These teams also provided psychosocial support, including Psychological First Aid (PFA) for 13 individuals and Child-Friendly Spaces for 97 children.
To ensure access to clean water, the PRC distributed 28,144 liters of water, handed out 2,153 bottles of drinking water, and conducted hygiene promotion sessions for 2,150 individuals. Its Emergency Response Unit (ERU) also sent a 6x6 truck and logistics team from Davao de Oro to assist in relief delivery operations.

PRC Chairman Richard J. Gordon lauded the unrelenting service of staff and volunteers amid the continuous series of disasters affecting the country.
“The Philippine Red Cross will continue to serve the Filipino people throughout multiple disasters,” Gordon said. “We will stop at no expense to bring aid to even the most far-flung communities,” he added.
With disasters striking one after another, the Philippine Red Cross is calling for public support to sustain its nationwide humanitarian operations.
Donations will help the organization replenish supplies, support field teams, and continue delivering life-saving services where they are needed most.

“Help us help more,” the PRC appealed, emphasizing that donations enable the humanitarian organization to be there — “first, fast, and always.”
The Philippine Red Cross continues to coordinate closely with local government units and partner agencies to ensure that affected families in Davao and other regions receive timely, effective assistance.
