Disaster-prone families get priority in emergency bag distribution - QC gov't
The Quezon City Government said that the next batch of recipients of its RESQC Bags will be low-income households living along the West Valley Fault.
In a statement on Monday, Oct. 13, the city government said the initiative initially covered residents living near waterways, creeks, and rivers frequently affected by flooding and forced evacuations, and fire victims.
“Ang RESQC Bag o emergency go bag ay unang ipinamahagi noong Hulyo sa mga residente na nakatira sa mga waterways, creeks, at ilog na madalas ilikas, gayundin sa mga biktima ng sunog ( RESQC or emergency go bag were distributed last July to residents near waterways, creeks, and rivers that usually evacuates, and to fire victims),” it said.
It added that the next distribution will focus on nine barangays traversed by the West Valley Fault, prioritizing families whose homes face a high risk of collapse or structural damage during major disasters.
“Prayoridad ng lokal na pamahalaan na unang mabigyan ang mga pinakalantad sa panganib (The city government will prioritize residents who are prone to danger in the distribution),” the city said.
The city government emphasized that while the local government provides emergency kits to the most vulnerable residents, every family is encouraged to prepare its own customized go bags suited to their specific needs.
“Mas epektibo ang emergency go bag kapag ito ay binuo ng bawat pamilya base sa kanilang pangangailangan at kakayahan bilang paghahanda sa anumang sakuna (An emergency go bag is more effective when it is developed by each family based on their needs and abilities in preparation for any disaster),” the statement added.
Residents were also reminded to report any emergency by calling Helpline 122.
