ILOILO CITY — The crime rate in the first nine months of the year in Western Visayas dropped by more than 200 incidents.
A report released by the Police Regional Office-6 said 14,380 criminal incidents were recorded from January to September, 209 lower than the 14,589 recorded during the same period last year in the region comprised of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as the regional capital Iloilo City.
“This downtrend in criminal incidents mirrors the dedication of our personnel and the cooperation of our communities,” said PRO-6 Director Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan.
“We will continue to sustain this momentum to ensure the safety and security of all Western Visayans,” added Ligan.
Under the Peace and Order Indicator (POI), PRO-6 also posted a 10.54 percent reduction, to only 5,722 incidents from the 6,382 in 2024.
There were also significant drop in index crimes such as murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, and theft, to 1,261 incidents this year from 1,591 last year.
There was also a decline in non-index crimes such as violations of special law or local ordinances to 4,461 cases from 4,791.
