The condemned Fort Bonifacio Tenement public housing project will be redeveloped by the Taguig City government.
Mayor Lani Cayetano signed a usufruct agreement with the National Housing Authority (NHA) giving the city government the authority to redevelop the tenement. NHA will remain as the owner of the property.
Cayetano said the city government will build a new tenement.
“Haharapin ng pamahalaang lungsod ang pagdesensyo, pagpondo, at pagpapagawa ng bagong Tenement. Ikinakasa na po natin ang dialogue sa mga residente ng Tenement para sa mga susunod na hakbang sa proyektong ito (The city government will handle the design, funding, and construction of the new Tenement. We have already initiated a dialogue with the Tenement residents for the next steps in this project),” the mayor posted on Facebook.
The city government had earlier said it would fund the project including the relocation of tenement residents and prioritization of qualified beneficiaries.
The NHA and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) will provide technical assistance.
It said Fort Bonifacio Tenement was declared unsafe and condemned by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in 2010.
“We know that this is a long process. But through this partnership and the support and guidance of NHA, we work even harder to provide our residents a safer, dignified, and resilient housing community,” Cayetano added.
