Camalaniugan Bridge in Cagayan
President Marcos said the Camalaniugan Bridge linking Aparri and Camalaniugan municipalities in Cagayan is eyed for opening by Christmas.
"Sana mabuksan natin by Christmas ito (I hope we can open this by Christmas)," Marcos said during an inspection of the bridge on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
According to Marcos, completing the bridge is a big deal as it will cater to 6,000 vehicles daily.
"So, madami talagang traffic. Tamang-tama nandiyan ‘yung Aparri Port. Lahat nung mga gamit na dati kung saan-saan – ang layo ng dinadaanan, eh ngayon dito 20 minutes na lang (So, there’s really a lot of traffic. It’s perfect that the Aparri Port is nearby. All the goods that used to take long, roundabout routes can now get here in just 20 minutes)," he said.
Aside from its functionality, the President also lauded the bridge's beauty, saying the design was done locally.
"We are looking at one of the most beautiful bridges that we have created in the Philippines. And I’m happy to note that it was done as well in time and it was done properly,” he said.
The P2.34-billion Camalaniugan Bridge primarily aims to provide an alternate route to the Magapit Suspension Bridge, the only bridge that crosses Cagayan River in northern Cagayan.
It is a 1,580-meter-long cable-stayed bridge connecting the towns of Aparri and Camalaniugan, and the only bridge crossing the Cagayan River in the northernmost part of Cagayan.
The construction started in May 2020, with 99 percent of the civil works accomplished as of Sept. 30, 2025.
It is a joint venture between Agafer Construction, a local construction firm, and Hunan Road and Bridge Construction, a China-based company, implemented under a design-and-build scheme.
