Muntinlupa health office advises public on influenza-like illness
The Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO) advised the public about the influenza-like illness (ILI), which became one of the two main reasons for the suspension of classes on Oct. 13 and 14 in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines ILI as “an acute respiratory illness with a measured temperature of ≥ 38 °C and cough, with onset within the past 10 days.”
In an advisory, the Muntinlupa CHO said ILI is spread quickly from person to person through the air (from coughing or sneezing) or contaminated objects.
Its symptoms include sore throat, cold, headache, chills, body ache, weakness, vomiting, and diarrhea.
The CHO advised people to practice handwashing, cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, avoid crowded places when they have symptoms, and get vaccinated against influenza.
“If you feel symptoms of influenza-like illnesses, immediately go to the nearest health center in your area,” the CHO said.
