Malaysian coffee chain brews ₱400-million expansion plan for Visayas, Mindanao
Malaysia-based coffee restaurant chain OldTown White Coffee plans to invest up to ₱400 million over the next five years as it ramps up expansion in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
Del Mundo Group, the Philippine licensee of OldTown, said the investment will cover the opening of a total of 20 outlets for Visayas and Mindanao.
Nelson del Mundo, Del Mundo Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said the Malaysian company is optimistic about continued expansion into the two island groups, driven by the growing tourism and business environment.
He said the vibrant local economy, combined with a rich culture and emerging consumer market, makes Visayas and Mindanao an ideal location for new coffee chains.
“We believe that bringing our trusted restaurant concepts here will not only create jobs and opportunities for local communities but also contribute to the area’s vibrant dining landscape,” said Del Mundo.
Headquartered in Ipoh, Malaysia, OldTown White Coffee earlier tapped the Del Mundo Group for its expansion into the Philippines.
The halal-certified coffee chain operates over 200 cafes in Malaysia, as well as in Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.
The Philippines welcomed its first OldTown restaurant in May 2023 in Caloocan City. The company has now opened 11 outlets nationwide.
The ₱400-million plan comes on the heels of the opening of its 11th cafe in Zamboanga City on Oct. 3.
Del Mundo Group Chief Operating Officer (COO) Matthew Ablis said the expansion into Zamboanga reflects the company’s commitment to introducing Malaysian coffee heritage to wider audience of consumers.
“This expansion represents more than just growth—it’s about sharing a beloved café experience that blends heritage, comfort, and community,” said Ablis.
“We’re excited for Zamboangueños to experience OldTown’s signature coffee and meals that celebrate both tradition and modern taste. It’s an honor to be part of Zamboanga’s growing culinary scene,” he added.
Apart from OldTown, Del Mundo Group also operates brands such as Mesa Filipino Moderne, Ramen Bari Uma, Buchiton, Hayashi Yakiniku, and Cravy.
