COTABATO CITY – Two men on a motorbike killed a village councilor of Ampatuan town, Maguindanao del Sur province and his son on Monday morning.
Police Lt. Col. Jopy Ventura, spokesperson for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region police, said Barangay Kapinpilan Councilor Abusama Agao and his son, Norodin, were ambushed at around 8:30 a.m.
Agao was identified as a field commander of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) while Norodin was a barangay tanod or watchman.
Jahara, Agao’s daughter, was injured.
The victims were on a tricycle, driven by Norodin, to attend a wedding when the ambush happened.
Father and son were killed on the spot, while Jahara was taken to Maguindanao Provincial Hospital in nearby Datu Hoffer town, Maguindanao del Sur.
Ventura said the motive and the identities of the attackers remained unknown.
Police have sought the assistance of the military in hunting down the perpetrators. (PNA)
