A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck near the City of Bogo, Cebu in the early hours of Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Earlier, the agency reported the quake at magnitude 6 but later downgraded it to magnitude 5.8 based on its Earthquake Information No. 3.
Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 1:06 a.m. The epicenter was located 14 kilometers south and 13 kilometers west of the City of Bogo, Cebu.
According to the agency, the quake had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers and was of tectonic origin, meaning it was caused by the movement of rock layers beneath the Earth’s crust.
