Choco Mucho outplayed Cignal despite the absence of import Anyse Smith, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 27-25, to officially kick off its title drive in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Monday night, Oct. 13.
The Flying Titans survived with an all-Filipino lineup with Maddie Madayag and Isa Molde leading their charge on their way to their first victory in the import-laden conference.
Madayag flashed her vintage form and fired 18 kills highlighted by six blocks, while Molde was instrumental in their offensive assault, pouring all her 17 points on attacks.
The team missed the services of Smith as the 6-foot-1 American outside hitter’s International Transfer Certificate (ITC) documents are reportedly still being processed.
But the Flying Titans immediately adjusted, with skipper Des Cheng and Kat Tolentino also scoring in double figures of 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Cignal attempted to bank on its defense by posting 13 blocks -- six coming from Vanie Gandler and Erin Pangilinan -- but Choco Mucho’s spikers were too much to handle.
Gandler and import Evangelia Chantava scored 15 and 10 points, respectively, for the HD Spikers, but their efforts went down the drain.
