Caloocan LGU launches safety inspections in schools, hospitals after quakes
The Caloocan City Government on Monday, Oct. 13, launched extensive safety inspections in public schools and hospitals following reports of several strong earthquakes that recently struck various parts of the country.
Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan personally led the inspections, accompanied by personnel from the City Engineering Department, the Caloocan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CCDRRMD), and the Office of the City Building Official (OCBO).
The initiative aims to ensure the safety and structural integrity of the city’s major public facilities.
“Masusi po nating siniyasat ang kalagayan ng mga gusali sa iba’t-ibang pampublikong lugar sa lungsod, lalo na sa mga paaralan at ospital upang tiyaking matibay at ligtas ang mga ito lalo na sa panahong hindi natin inaasahan ang lindol o anumang sakuna (We have carefully inspected the condition of buildings in various public places in the city, especially schools and hospitals, to ensure that they are strong and safe, especially at a time when we do not expect an earthquake or any other disaster),” Mayor Malapitan said.
The inspection teams visited several schools and hospitals to check for visible cracks, structural weaknesses, and other potential safety risks.
They also assessed emergency exits, evacuation areas, and safety equipment to ensure readiness in case of emergencies.
“Siyempre po, ang panalangin natin ay huwag natin maranasan ang masasamang epekto ng sakuna, ngunit nakahanda po ang buong pamahalaang lungsod na tumugon sa anumang pangangailangan ng ating mga mamamayan sa anumang emergency (Of course, our prayer is that we do not experience the adverse effects of the disaster, but the entire city government is prepared to respond to any needs of our citizens in any emergency),” the mayor added.
The city mayor also held a meeting with department heads to strengthen the city government’s preparedness measures, including the conduct of earthquake drills, review of evacuation plans, and coordination among response teams.
The local government assured residents that the results of the inspections will be used to determine necessary reinforcement or repair works in public structures.
Residents are advised to stay alert and participate in disaster preparedness activities to ensure community safety.
