Bacolod, Bago, Talisay cities cancel classes after magnitude-5.8 Bogo tremor
BACOLOD CITY – This highly-urbanized city and two local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental suspended classes on all levels on Monday, Oct. 13, after a magnitude-5.8 aftershock rocked Bogo City, Cebu before dawn.
Mayor Greg Gasataya announced the class suspension after a meeting with the Department of Education (DepEd) and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
Schools were encouraged to shift to modular distance learning and performance tasks and projects to ensure that learning competencies are met.
Gasataya said the City Engineer’s Office, CDRRMO, and the Office of the Building Official (OBO) will conduct a rapid damage assessment and needs analysis in all government schools starting Monday morning in coordination with DepEd and their school administrations.
Mayor Marina Javellana-Yao and Mayor Rowena Lizares cancelled classes in Bago City and Talisay City, respectively, as precautionary measure to ensure the safety of people.
In Silay City, Mayor Joedith Gallego left the discretion to school heads to implement class suspension.
