Ateneo de Manila University honors Italian Master Salvatore Cascone
His Excellency Ambassador Davide Giglio of the Embassy of Italy
Ateneo de Manila University, in collaboration with its cultural and academic institutions, proudly inaugurated “The Madonnas of Salvatore Cascone: An Exhibition of Sacred Art” on Monday, September 29, 2025. The launch took place at the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception in Gonzaga Hall, setting a solemn and contemplative atmosphere for the exhibit’s opening.
Gracing the occasion as guest of honor was Ambassador Excellency Davide Giglio of the Embassy of Italy to the Philippines. The event carried profound personal significance for the ambassador, as the featured artist—Salvatore Cascone (1904–1996)—was his late grandfather.

The exhibition presented a collection of works by Cascone, a renowned Italian fresco painter celebrated for his commitment to reviving the spiritual depth and luminous beauty of Renaissance art. This marks the first time Cascone’s masterpieces are being exhibited outside of Italy, offering Filipino audiences a rare opportunity to encounter his deeply expressive portrayals of the Virgin Mary and Child—enduring icons of maternal love and divine grace.
A joint initiative of the Office of the President, the School of Humanities, the Ateneo Art Gallery, Areté, and the Office of Campus Ministry, the exhibit underscores the university’s dedication to promoting intercultural dialogue and spiritual reflection through the arts.
The Madonnas of Salvatore Cascone is open to the public until October. 27, 2025. Viewing hours are from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
