Two public colleges in Muntinlupa also suspended face-to-face classes on Oct. 13 and 14.
Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon identified the two colleges as the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa and Colegio de Muntinlupa.
On Oct. 12, the Department of Education-National Capital Region ordered the suspension of classes in all public schools in Metro Manila due to an increase in the number of students and personnel with influenza-like illnesses and the recent earthquakes that hit the country.
“In light of the increasing incidence of influenza-like illnesses among learners and personnel and the recent series of earthquakes affecting various parts of the country, the Department of Education – National Capital Region (DepEd NCR) issues this advisory to ensure the continuity of learning while prioritizing the health, safety, and structural security of all public schools,” said Jocelyn Andaya, DepEd-NCR regional director.
Biazon said the order covered public schools from Kinder to Grade 12, Early Childhood Education Centers, and the two public universities in Muntinlupa.
For private schools and colleges, the suspension of classes is under the discretion of their management, the mayor said.
Public schools will shift to the alternative delivery mode, either synchronous or asynchronous, according to Biazon.
