K-drama 'Typhoon Family' premieres at No. 1 in the ratings
“Typhoon Family,” the Saturday-Sunday Korean drama that succeeded “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty,” premiered with impressive ratings in South Korea.
The period drama, which recreated the atmosphere of 1997 in South Korea, stars Lee Jun-ho (“King the Land”) and Kim Minha (“Pachinko”).
Based on Nielsen Korea data, the first episode of “Typhoon Family” on Oct. 11 on tvN garnered a nationwide rating of 5.874 percent in South Korea (peaking to 7.1 percent), setting the record for the highest-rated premiere for a tvN Saturday-Sunday drama in 2025.
In the metropolitan area, the first episode received a rating of 5.73 percent (peaking to 7.1 percent).
The ratings captured first place in the same time slot across all channels including terrestrial channels in Korea.
The drama’s target viewership rating among the 20-49 age group averaged 1.8 percent nationwide, first place in the same time slot across all channels.
The Nielsen Korea ratings for “Typhoon Family” were based on paid platforms integrating cable, IPTV, and satellite.
In comparison, the first episode of “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty” on Aug. 23 got ratings of 4.856 percent nationwide and 5.101 percent in the metropolitan area.
