In the wake of the multiple earthquakes that hit the Philippines in a span of two weeks, the international community came together to offer help and assistance for the government and the victims left devastated by the disasters.

United States Ambassador MaryKay Carlson shared about the US’ provision of some 137,000 family food packs and 500 emergency shelter kits in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as they “assess additional needs” in Davao Oriental.

“My heart goes out to all those affected by the Mindanao earthquake and recent natural disasters,” she said on X (formerly Twitter).

Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya, likewise, expressed solidarity with the Philippines Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) responded to the request of the Philippine government in providing emergency relief goods—tents, blankets, plastic sheets, sleeping pads, portable jerry cans, and portable water purifiers.

“My heart goes out to all the families affected by the earthquake in Davao and the southern Philippines,” Endo said.

“In this moment of uncertainty, (Japan) stands with the (Filipino) people with hope, strength, and solidarity. Praying for the safety and quick recovery of communities across the region,” he added on X.

European Union Ambassador Massimo Santoro also reshared a post by the EU Delegation in the Philippines about plans to assess the current situation in Davao region after the EU has provided P50 million worth of humanitarian aid for Cebu after the earthquake there last Sept. 30.

“We express our solidarity with the people of Davao hit by an earthquake this morning. We are now assessing the situation in Davao. (EU) and (the Philippines) are strong partners in resilience,” the post read.

The EU earlier provided €750,000 (over P50 million) in humanitarian aid to the victims of the earthquake in Cebu province. Of this allocation, €250,000 (P16,840,000) will support the Philippine Red Cross in delivering cash assistance, tents, and household items to the victims.

The funding is part of the EU’s overall contribution to the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

This year, the EU has already allocated €7.3 million (P491,728,000) in humanitarian aid and disaster preparedness to the Philippines.

The government of Taiwan has also donated $200,000 (P11,665,000) for Cebu earthquake victims. Its turnover will be held at Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Australian Ambassador Marc Innes-Brown Innes-Brown put the spotlight on rescuers and the Philippine government’s response to the disasters.

“Our thoughts are with those affected by the earthquakes in the Davao region. Australia commends the Philippines’ response and resilience in the face of multiple disaster events,” he wrote on X.

The United Nations said that it is also ready to dispatch the necessary aid needed by Davao Oriental.

UN Philippines Resident Coordinator Arnaud Peral said that relevant UN agencies are ready to coordinate with the government should it ask for any kind of support.

The provinces of Cebu and Davao have been hit by strong quakes less than two weeks apart, with Davao Oriental experiencing magnitudes 7.4 and 6.9 on Friday, Oct. 10. Another 4.8-magnitude earthquake—an aftershock of the 7.4 quake—jolted it on Sunday, Oct. 12.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that the earthquakes have affected a total of 74,649 families or 91,224 persons, and has so far killed seven people.
