Gloc-9 has no plan to write another song similar to 'Upuan'
Veteran rapper Gloc-9 revealed that some fans are suggesting he should write another song similar to his 2009 hit, "Upuan," after it resurfaced at the height of flood control projects controversy.
"Sa totoo lang, may narereceive ako sinasabi nila gumawa ako ng part 2 ng upuan. Parang I think hindi siya fair dun sa unang song na ginawa ko kasi syempre hindi mo na pwedeng ulitin yung sincerity mo sa pagsulat ng kantang yun. Kapag inutusan ka na isulat yun parang iba na. (Actually, some people have been saying that I should write part two of 'Upuan.' I feel like that's a bit unfair to the first song I wrote, because you can't really recreate the same sincerity that went into that. When you're asked to write something, it feels different. It's not the same)," said Gloc-9 during an ambush interview in Quezon City.
Gloc-9 added, "I think mas maganda pag nilayan natin yung laman ng awitin and mas pagbutihin pa natin. Hindi ko naman sinasabi na ayaw ko magsulat. I just feel like kung meron man tayong hinahanap na awitin na gusto natin magrepresent ng nararamdaman natin, maraming kanta na ganyan ngayon so parang hindi naman na kailangan. (I think it would be better if we could reflect more on the song’s message and find ways to improve it. It’s not that I don’t enjoy writing—I do. It’s just that if we’re looking for a song that truly represents our feelings, there are already so many songs out there that do that. It doesn’t always have to be forced. )
With nearly a decade in the music industry, Gloc-9 has created numerous impactful songs that remain relevant today. For him, it all comes down to intention.
"Siguro yun dahil yun sa intentions ko, kasi nung sinulat ko yung kantang yun [Upuan], ako ay estudyante sa loob ng isang public hospital na nakakakita ng isang nanay na namatayan ng anak dahil wala silang pambili ng gamot wala ka ng ibang hahanapin na sincerity and inspiration to write a song about that. (Maybe that's because of my intentions, because when I wrote that song [Upuan], I was a student in a public hospital seeing a mother whose child died because they couldn't afford medicine. You have no other source of sincerity and inspiration to write a song about that.)
Creating 'Project A' with Abbadon
From one legend to another, Gloc-9 and Abbadon will release their upcoming full-length record together, entitled ''Project A."
Named after the “A” in both Abaddon (Venzon Malubay) and Gloc-9 (Aristotle Pollisco), the upcoming collaborative album from the two Filipino rap artists is set for release on Friday, Oct. 17
During the press conference, Abbadon shared that this collab album is like a trophy for his career.
"Kasi para sa akin talaga kumbaga sa ano trophy ko na po ito ehhh, kumbaga sa dating abbadon nagsisimula talagang si Gloc-9 na po yung sinusundan ko tapos nandito na po kami sa point na kasama ko na po siya sa album. (For me, this really feels like a trophy. Back in the early days of my career as Abaddon, Gloc-9 was the artist I looked up to—and now, we've reached a point where he's actually on my album)," Abaddon said.
Consisting of 11 tracks, the album’s release is preceded by 10 of its songs coming out as singles: "Dating Gawi," "Halimaw," "Taksil," "Ambag," "Kuya Cesar," "Anghel," "BLGBGN," "Bonethugs," "Kakampi," and "Magarang Kotse," all of which were released earlier this year.
Produced by Cursebox, the upcoming album features several guest artists across multiple tracks, including Abaddon’s group Shockra, as well as Astro, Smugglaz, Hero, Arvy T, and Tuglaks.
