DHSUD sends modular shelters for quake-hit Cebu, prepares the same for families displaced in Davao Or
The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has sent modular shelter units (MSUs) for the families that lost their homes to a powerful quake that hit the province of Cebu on Sept. 30.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the modular shelter units were also provided to the families who are still too scared to go back to their communities due to trauma following the magnitude 6.9 tremor and the continuous aftershocks.
“We hope that these MSUs will somehow ease the burden of the quake victims. They will be comfortable here,” said Aliling.
He said the MSUs were allocated for the towns of Daan Bantayan, San Remegio and Medellin which are among the areas hardest hit by the powerful quake.
MSUs will also be set up on the "Bayanihan Villages" that were ordered established by President Marcos to shelter for the quake victims, according to Aliling.
“As of Sunday, several MSUs were already installed in the LGU-identified area for the Bayanihan Village in San Remigio town. The delivery of the MSUs was made after the DHSUD conducted ground assessment, in close coordination with other government agencies and local government units,” he said.
Aside from the MSUs, the DHSUD chief ordered the Pag IBIG Fund, the Social Housing Finance Corporation, National Housing Authority and the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation to suspend housing amortization in Cebu and in Bicol Region that was battered by typhoons “Nando” and “Opong.”
For Davao Oriental too
Aliling said the same MSUs will be provided to the families displaced by the magnitude 7.4 quake that jolted Davao Oriental on Oct. 10.
He said a team from the Central Office and Regional Office 11 were already deployed to determine the exact assistance needed by affected LGUs in Davao Oriental, in close coordination with other government agencies and non-government organizations.
The MSUs will serve as temporary shelters for families displaced by the magnitude 7.5 earthquake. The modulars will be set up inside Bayanihan Villages which will be identified by LGUs.
