4 dead as truck rams 11 vehicles, 3 houses in Lucena City

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Four people were killed and eight others were injured as a cargo truck plowed into 11 vehicles and three houses on the Maharlika Highway in Purok Maulawin, Barangay Isabang, this city, before midnight Saturday.

Police identified three of the victims as William Lorilla, 34, truck driver; Sherwin dela Cruz, 41; and Roldan Ranillo, 34. One victim, who was found inside one of the houses, remains unidentified as of posting time.

Investigation said the truck was speeding and rammed the sidewalk gutter and plowed into parked vehicles and houses.

Three of the vehicles caught fire – a Toyota Corolla, Toyota Vios, and a Toyota Avanza.

Lorilla was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Dela Cruz and Ranillo were riding a tricycle and were found dead on the road shoulder.

Injured were Jerimy, 18; Rose, 21; Almico, 21; Almica, 19; Almiro, 7; Maria, 70; Michelle, 47; and Almira, 20, who were inside the three houses. They were taken to the Quezon Medical Center.
