Zamora joins Mayors for Good Governance, vows transparency in San Juan
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Friday, Oct. 10, affirmed his support for transparency and honesty in public service as he joined the Mayor for Good Governance (M4GG), a coalition of mayors and other local government officials committed to upholding the principles of good governance and serving the best interest of their constituents.
To our fellow public servants, Mayor Joy Belmonte, Mayor Vico Sotto, Mayor Benjie Magalong, Mayor Sitti Hataman and to all those who make up Mayors for Good Governance, this is your servant, Mayor Francis Zamora of the City of San Juan, President of the Metro Manila Council and National President of the League of Cities of the Philippines, who is very grateful for your acceptance into our prestigious organization)," Zamora said in a statement.
"You can count on my support as a member of M4GG and of course, you can count on our smooth and honest governance here in the City of San Juan," he added.
The mayor also assured the coalition of the city government's commitment to transparency and corruption-free governance, particularly in light of the anomalous flood control projects currently under investigation nationwide.
"Here in the City of San Juan, there are no ghost projects and the administration is well-managed. We take pride in this because our goal is to ensure that every citizen benefits from the funds allocated by both the national and local governments," he noted.
Zamora has been very vocal on the importance of proper coordination between the local government and the national government, particularly with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), regarding infrastructure and other national government projects implemented in local communities.
He made the statement after the discovery of numerous flood control projects being constructed without the knowledge of the local government units (LGUs).
Kaming mga LGUs ang nakakaalam nyan (That is important because if the DPWH does not communicate with the LGUs, if there is no coordination at all, how will they know where we need a pumping station? Which barangays in our city are the most flooded and need to improve the drainage system? Which of our creeks should be equipped with slope protection? We, the LGUs, know that)," the mayor said.
"With proper coordination, we can determine kung ano bang mga lugar 'yung mas nangangailangan, anong klaseng problema ba ang dapat solusyunan, at pinakamahalaga, natututukan namin yung mga proyektong ginagawa nila (With proper coordination, we can determine which areas are most in need, what problems must be addressed, and most importantly, we can monitor the projects they are implementing)," he added.
