Carmina and Zoren on teaching Mavy & Cassy about romance, money matters
The Legaspis - Mavy Legaspi, Carmina Villaroel, Zoren Legaspi, and Cassy Legaspi
Actors Carmina Villarroel and Zoren Legaspi shared insights into their family's unique approach to navigating the intricate worlds of relationships and finances with their children, Mavy and Cassy.
With warmth and understanding, they illuminated the importance of open conversations, ensuring their kids are well-prepared to handle life’s complexities with confidence.
In an interview with the Legapis for the series "Hating Kapatid" on GMA Network, Carmina and Zoren passionately shared the invaluable lessons they've instilled in their children about the importance of financial independence and the beauty of nurturing healthy relationships.
Their commitment to empowering their kids with the tools for personal freedom and self-sufficiency shone through in their heartfelt discussion.
Falling in love
"When it comes to being in a relationship, you have to experience it. Whether you are a dad or a mother, hindi talaga sila makikinig once they are in love, they need to learn it by themselves. Tama ba ito or hindi? But eventually nagigising din naman yung tao. (Whether you are a dad or a mother, your children don't listen once they are in love. Is it right or wrong? But eventually they will realize it)," said Zoren.
We have no opinions about their love life. Kung sino ang magustuhan nila, we have no opinions. (But Mina and I have talked about it, and where they are happy, we are happy. We have no opinions about their love life. Who they like, we have no opinions.)"
Carmina said, "Kahit na ano pa ang pigil mo, kahit na ano ang kontra mo, which we don't do, they are of age already, they can decide on their own. Pero kahit na meron silang ganun, we still have respect. (No matter what you do, no matter what you oppose, which we don't do, they are of age already, they can decide on their own. But even if they have that, we still have respect.)"
"Our respect will always be there. So kaming dalawa ni Zoren, constant reminders lang kami sa kanila. When it comes to love, sige magmahal ka, but don't forget to lose yourself. Hanggang doon lang kami. Constant reminders lang kami. (So Zoren and I are just constant reminders to them. When it comes to love, go ahead and love, but don't forget to lose yourself. That's all we're going for. We're just constant reminders)," she also said.
Carmina expressed that the joy of falling in love is a beautiful, exhilarating experience, but she warned not to lose sight of one's own essence in the process.
"When you fall in love, you will be hurt sometimes, but what's important is that you learned something. It's okay to fall. Ang importante is that you know how to stand up and move on with your life. It's so happy to be in love. Wala namang magulang na ayaw maging masaya ang mga anak nila. Just don't lose yourself. (When you fall in love, you will be hurt sometimes, but what's important is that you learned something. It's okay to fall. What's important is that you know how to stand up and move on with your life. It's so happy to be in love. All parents want their children to be happy. Just don't lose yourself)," she said.

Dealing with finances
Carmina passionately emphasizes the importance of saving every penny, instilling in them the notion that financial security begins with careful planning. Meanwhile, Zoren encourages his kids to look beyond mere savings and to welcome the exhilarating world of investing.
"In terms of finances, we also have no say in that. We don't really interfere in that, and they have the freedom. That's where they learn. They need to find it on their own," said Zoren.
Carmina added, "Again, we don't have control over their bank accounts. We don't know kung ano na ang mga laman ng bank accounts nila. Hindi rin namin alam kung ano ang pumapasok sa kanila. We call them respect. It's their privacy. We respect one another. (Again, we don't have control over their bank accounts. We don't know what's in their bank accounts. We also don't know what's going into their accounts. We call that respect. It's their privacy. We respect one another.)"
However, Zoren stated that his children's bank accounts would be locked if they did something wrong. "Pero so far, wala naman silang mga vice. (They don't have vices.)"
Carmina has revealed that Cassy and Mavy opened their bank accounts when they started doing endorsements at an early age.
"Growing up, we've been reminding them to save. They started so young doing endorsements. So si Tatay (Zoren), nag open na ng bank accounts nila. They went to the bank and opened their accounts at an early age. Bata pa lang sila alam na nila kung saan napupunta ang mga money nila. I always tell them to save for the rainy days because you don't know what will happen. Si Tatay (Zoren), invest, invest, and invest. Ako save, save, and save. I also tell them to enjoy their hard-earned money. (They started so young doing endorsements. So Tatay (Zoren) opened their bank accounts. They went to the bank and opened their accounts at an early age. They're still young, and they know where their money goes. I always tell them to save for the rainy days because you don't know what will happen. Tatay (Zoren), invest, invest, and invest. I saved, saved, and saved. I also tell them to enjoy their hard-earned money)," she said.
Cassy, 24, has revealed that they were taught how to budget their money.
"I remember after doing a commercial, when we were younger, my mom would treat us to a toy shop. Pero may limit lang ang budget. So tumitingin lang ako ng mga toys and nasa mindset ko na rin na limited lang ang kukunin ko. (I remember after doing a commercial, when we were younger, my mom would treat us to a toy shop. But the budget was limited. So I just looked at toys, and I was in the mindset that I would only buy a limited amount)," she said.
Carmina and Mavy beamed with admiration as they celebrated Cassy's generous spirit, marveling at her unwavering dedication to showering her family with thoughtful gifts.
"Si Cassy when it comes to herself, I don't want to use the word kuripot. But pagdating sa amin, hindi siya tumitingin sa tag price. Grabe yan magregalo sa amin. Ilang beses na niya ako pinaiyak dahil sa regalo niya. Pero pagdating naman sa sarili niya, iisipin niya agad expensive. (When it comes to Cassy, I don't want to use the word stingy. But when it comes to us, she doesn't look at the price tag. She gave us wonderful gifts. She's made me cry several times because of her gifts. When it comes to herself, she would think it's expensive)," Carmina said.
Mavy thinks Cassy's gift is her ability to give to others. She has the blessing to bless others.

Admiring their parents
Mavy and Cassy enthusiastically shared the remarkable qualities they cherish in their parents, highlighting their warmth, strength, and unwavering support.
"My parents are selfless. When you say selfless, ibig sabihin ay mabait, ma-respeto, and generous. While they prioritize themselves, inuuna pa rin nila yung ibang tao. Sometimes it's too much. But you need more people like that. Yan siguro ang pinaka-foundation namin ni Cassy. Yung pagiging selfless. (When you say selfless, it means being kind, respectful, and generous. While they prioritize themselves, they still prioritize other people. Sometimes it's too much. But you need more people like that. That's probably the foundation of Cassy and me, being selfless)," said Mavy.
Cassy said, "They are grounded. Whether through ups and downs, they always stay grounded. I find it inspiring. Each time they achieve success, they become more grounded. They become more into their faith. That's what made me who I am today."
