A magnitude 4.1 earthquake jolted the waters off Silago, Southern Leyte, on Saturday night, Oct. 11, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its report, Phivolcs said the tremor struck at 9:54 p.m., with its epicenter recorded 16 kilometers north and 89 kilometers east of Silago.
The quake had a depth of 222 kilometers, it added.
The agency said the quake was tectonic in origin, meaning it was triggered by the movement of rock layers along active faults beneath the Earth’s crust.
Phivolcs added that no damage or aftershocks were expected from the deep, weak tremor.
