“After verification with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Embassy was able to confirm that no Filipino citizen has been involved in any third-country deportation from the United States,” a statement from the embassy said on Saturday, Oct. 11.
“The individual in question was unable to establish their Philippine citizenship and therefore could not be deported to the Philippines,” it added.
This came amid foreign media reports that a Filipino was among the group of 10 deportees sent by the US government to Eswatini under its controversial campaign that sends illegal immigrants to a third country.
The Trump administration is ramping up its deportations from the US, striking deals with third countries—El Salvador, Rwanda, Uganda, and South Sudan—for them to receive the third-country deportees.
The embassy vowed that it stands ready to assist Filipinos in the US.
“The Embassy continues to engage with relevant U.S. authorities to ensure the well-being of its citizens in the United States and maintains its readiness to receive all Filipino citizens under final order of removal,” the statement said.
