MGEN Center for Innovation in Iloilo City.
ILOILO CITY – Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen) has opened its first energy center outside of Metro Manila in Iloilo to foster innovation in the energy sector of the Visayas.
MGen Center for Innovation (MCI) was opened by MGen and Meralco Power Academy (MPA) at the facility of Panay Energy Development Corp, (PEDC), the operator of the coal-fired power plant in La Paz District.
Formerly known as GBP Institute for Energy, MCI is serving as a training facility “where ideas are nurtured, and a space to hone the skills of the next energy leaders” in the Visayas.
“This facility has been reimagined and revitalized to meet the evolving needs of our industry and our communities,” said MGen President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio during its Oct. 8 inauguration.
“MCI will serve a wider audience and aim to become a leading hub for energy education, research, and innovation — the first of many Centers for Innovation we plan to establish across our sites in the Philippines,” he added.
Rubio was joined by MGen Thermal President and CEO Felino M. Bernardo, PEDC Plant Head Atty. Jun Cabalhug, MPA Executive Director Ian Colorina, MPA Energy Research and Program Management Director Marc Lester Malibiran, and MGEN Human Resources Head Dang Lopez.
With its recent opening, the MCI hosted the Young Engineers and Scientists Summit (YESS). Participants were students of Philippine Science High School (PSHS-Western Visayas), Angelicum School Iloilo, and Leganes National High School.
