A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental, on Saturday evening, Oct. 11, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In its Earthquake Information No. 1 bulletin, the agency said the tectonic quake occurred at 6:27 p.m.
It was located 62 kilometers southeast of Manay, Davao Oriental, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the tremor was of tectonic origin, meaning it was caused by the movement of geological faults.
Phivolcs said Intensity III was felt in the City of Mati, Davao Oriental, while Instrumental Intensity III was recorded in Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; and Malungon, Sarangani.
Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity II was observed in the City of Digos, Davao del Sur; Alabel and Kiamba, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato; and Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat.
The agency said damage may be expected, but aftershocks are not anticipated.
