Madrid's iconic Chocolatería San Ginés will open soon in Manila
The world-famous café known for its churros con chocolate brings a taste of Spain to the Philippines
When in Madrid, Spain, one must-visit culinary landmark is Chocolatería San Ginés. Established in 1894, its original shop on Pasadizo de San Ginés has remained virtually unchanged since the 19th century. Stepping inside, with its tiled walls, green façade, and mirrored interiors, feels like a journey back in time.
What makes this café a must on every traveler’s list isn’t just its nostalgic charm, but its signature churros con chocolate. The line to order is almost always long, but it moves fast. Over the years, Chocolatería San Ginés has drawn an impressive list of visitors, from former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Spanish singer Julio Iglesias to football legend Diego Maradona, supermodel Naomi Campbell, and global pop star Dua Lipa.
No need to plan a trip to Madrid, because Manila will soon have its very own Chocolatería San Ginés! Set to open in February 2026, it will be the brand’s first branch in Asia. And yes, we’ll finally get to enjoy their golden, crispy churros served with thick, velvety chocolate.
“Bringing San Ginés to the Philippines is about more than food—it’s about sharing a piece of Madrid’s cultural soul with Manila,” says Pedro Trapote, founder of San Ginés.
The Manila flagship will feature a Spanish-style cafeteria serving paella, tortilla, and a curated selection of tapas, even their famous chocolate cake.
Soon, we’ll be dipping golden, crispy churros into that signature thick chocolate and savoring classic Spanish favorites. A 131-year-old tradition is about to make its entrance in Manila—and we can’t wait to taste this new chapter.
