Former champions Rubilen Amit and Chezka Centeno edged out their respective veteran rivals to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2025 WPA Women’s 10-Ball World Championship in Bali, Indonesia on Saturday, Oct. 11.
The 44-year-old Amit needed a little over three hours to outplay last year’s European Pool 10-Ball champion Pia Filler of Germany, 4-1, 4-3, 4-2, to bolster her campaign of a historic third world title.
Locked at 2-all in the third, Amit came through with smart shots to claim the next two racks for the match win.
Centeno was equally impressive, ousting defending champion Kristina Tkach, 4-3, 2-4, 4-1, 4-1, in a match that lasted three hours and 10 minutes.
The win, likewise, boosted her own campaign of a repeat title performance in 2023.
It was a tough road for Centeno so far, having gone through the loser’s qualification that included a recent 4-0, 4-2 win over Vietnamese Vang Bui Xuan to advance to the knockout stage.
With their triumphs, Centeno arranged a meeting with Taiwanese Wang Wan-Ling, who outgunned last year’s runner-up Seoa Seo of Korea, 4-1, 4-3, 2-4, 4-0.
Amit, meanwhile, set up a meeting with 2022 Chou Chieh-yu of Chinese Taipei, who survived Australia’s Hung Meng-Hsia, 4-3, 0-4, 4-2, 2-4, 4-1.
With the quarters berth, both Amit and Centeno already assured themselves of $9,000 cash purse (around P500,000) from the $175,000 total prize fund, but of course, both players are more focused on more glory.
The quarterfinals are being played at press time.
