ILOILO CITY – The Iloilo Provincial Capitol and Iloilo City Hall suspended work on Friday, Oct. 10, following the 7.4-magnitude earthquake in Mindanao.
Iloilo Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. and Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas cancelled work for the day to pave the way for the inspection of government buildings to assess their structurally integrity.
Treñas canceled classes on all levels in Iloilo City. Defensor left the decision to the mayors of the 42 towns and the component city in the province.
Several regional offices of national government agencies suspended work for the day.
The earthquake was also felt in other parts of the Western Visayas region. No damages were recorded as of posting time.
The provincial government of Antique expressed support for the people in Davao and the rest of Mindanao in this trying time.
“Our hearts ache with yours – may comfort, strength, and hope embrace every family affected,” the Provincial government of Antique said in a statement.
