Taguig police deny cop's involvement in harassment, extortion
The Taguig police refuted a complaint against a cop who allegedly harassed an individual and threatened to file an estafa case.
The complaint against Capt. Jerson Carino Castillo, a Taguig police officer, was received through the 8888 Citizens’ Complaint Hotline.
“The Taguig City Police Station clarifies reports received through 8888 regarding a certain ‘Jerson Carino Castillo’ claiming to be a police officer from this station and allegedly harassing a person via phone call by threatening to file an estafa case using mobile number 09536037486,” the Taguig police said in a statement.
They added, “There is indeed a legitimate police officer named PCpt Jerson Carino Castillo, currently the Station Commander of Police Sub-Station 8. However, he has no connection whatsoever to any extortion or harassment activity.”
“His name is being illegally used by scammers to demand money from victims with alleged debts to lending institutions. Similar cases have also been reported in Ifugao, SPD [Southern Police District], and MPD [Manila Police District] Anti-Cybercrime Teams, showing that this is a nationwide scam operation,” the Taguig police said.
The Taguig police said, “Based on the information and evidence gathered, this station categorically states that PCpt Jerson C. Castillo is not involved in any of these unlawful activities.”
“The Taguig City Police Station upholds the highest standards of integrity and will never tolerate any form of misconduct among its ranks,” they said.
They added, “The Taguig City Police Station strongly warns the public not to entertain or send money to anyone claiming to be police officers demanding payment for supposed ‘cases’ or ‘warrants.’ An ongoing investigation is being conducted to identify and arrest those behind this fraudulent scheme. Please report similar incidents to your nearest police station or the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group.”
